Oar-CUP: navigating the turbulent waters of 21st century journalism
The Strand is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the final ORCUP event of the year: a mini conference in Toronto. On March 20, The Strand invites you to Oar-CUP: navigating the turbulent waters of 21st century journalism, a full day of seminars, workshops and discussions that will equip you with skills to ride the waves of the changing media industry.
To bring you such a diverse set of skills, we’ve gathered some of Toronto’s hottest names in newsprint, photojournalism, podcasting and the blogosphere. Freelance journalist Tabassum Siddiqui – whose work has been featured in the National Post, AOL Canada, and the CBC – will discuss arts reporting, while online guru David Topping will share his experiences as Editor-in-Chief of Torontoist, the most widely read blog of its kind in Canada. As Maclean’s reporter Patricia Treble helps delegates hone the craft of fact checking, former National Bureau Chief William Wolfe-Wylie will speak to the tips, techniques and pitfalls of features writing.
Hosted downtown on the University of Toronto campus, Oar-CUP will also give delegates the chance to meet and mingle with student journalists, academics and industry insiders from across Ontario. Kicking things off mid-morning, the day’s events will include a deli-style lunch, and the chance to explore the heart of the city. Following the various seminars and workshops, delegates are also invited to a local pub to enjoy Toronto’s nightlife with CUPpies, both present and past.
On March 20, finish your year off with bang – join fellow writers, photographers and bloggers for Oar-Cup: navigating the turbulent waters of 21st century journalism.
Costs
Delegate fees are only $7 per person, which includes lunch. Fees are due upon signing in at the conference.
