More and more emerging media workers are turning to freelancing as a way to gain experience or supplement their income. CWA Canada wants to support new freelancers in dealing with engagers, finding work, and gaining relevant skills.
We occasionally set associate members up with freelance opportunities for the CWA Canada and Canadian Media Guild websites. We look for pieces on youth, labour and/or journalism. If you come across a related event or issue in your community, please feel free to send your pitch in to Katherine Lapointe (firstname.lastname@example.org). Freelancers get to work with a mentor, learn how to work with a contract and an invoice, and are paid!

Whatever your media talent or stage of professional experience, for an annual fee of $150, you can join Canadian Media Guild (CMG) Freelance, connect with others across Canada and cyberspace, and enjoy the benefits of our services and resources.
This is basically the next step up in membership, after "associate". Yes, this membership does cost money, but in return you get access to online software training through Lynda.com, to affordable health benefits, and to contract advice and counsel from CMG staff.
