​This year’s theme, “Cultivate,” emphasizes growth,

creativity, and careful attention. Participants

are invited to nurture their skills, ideas, and

connections, exploring how thoughtful effort

and collaboration can help both journalism and

themselves flourish.

​

NASH 88 is a space to learn from professionals,

share experiences with peers, and actively engage

in the process of cultivating meaningful work and

lasting impact.

Tickets

Your ticket grants you access to the full NASH 88 experience, including: 

  • transportation to and from the conference location and hotel 

  • access to the JHM award gala and afterparty on Saturday night 

  • exclusive conference swag 

  • all your meals, including dinner on Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday (breakfast is provided by the hotel) 

  • 5 sessions on Saturday, 3 on sunday, and 3 keynote speakers throughout the weekend

Daniella Atkinson

Daniella Atkinson is a Vancouver based creator, journalist and content strategist best known for her popular street interview series on Instagram and TikTok.

 

After earning her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) specialization in Media and Performance Production from Queens University, she moved out west to begin her career.

 

Her early work included on-air reporting for The Market

Herald, before pivoting toward independent content creation and consulting in 2023.

 

Now with over 150 million video views and 200,000 followers, she continues to use her journalistic

instincts to create content that blends curiosity, storytelling and community.

Blue Jay Walker

Blue Jay Walker is a storyteller and artist. He is the founder and primary contributor for Paper Rag, a mail-order arts and culture publication which has sold over 10,000 copies and ships to 35 countries every month.

 

He has performed over 500 shows, delivering

poetry and music to 25+ major cities across three continents. As a champion of the busking tradition and accessible art, in 2024 Walker wrote a record breaking 240-foot poem on a singular scroll. He completed this project with his typewriter live on location at the historic Washington Square Park, NYC.

 

During his itinerant years he has amassed 450,000+ followers across social media and has written thousands of individual poems that live framed on walls, tucked in memory journals, or hidden in junk drawers across the world.

Garth Mullins

Garth Mullins is a harm-reduction activist, award-winning journalist, best-selling author, broadcaster

and musician.

 

He is an organizer with the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users, and executive producer and host of the award-winning podcast Crackdown. Garth has won the Hillman Prize, Third Coast Audio Award, Webster, three New York Festivals Radio Awards and the Bud Osborn Award for Knowledge Translation. His writing has appeared in many outlets.

 

He was a columnist with a Postmedia

paper - until they fired him. Garth lives in Vancouver.

Kathryn Marlowe

Kathryn Marlow works at CBC Victoria, where she is a reporter and the host/producer of the weekly podcast "This is Vancouver Island."

 

She’s worked at CBC for more than 15 years in 4 different cities: as a local and network radio producer, a radio and online reporter, and a radio and podcast host.

The conference is hosted at Capilano University, located at 2055 Purcell Way, North Vancouver, BC. in North Vancouver. ​

The conference hotel is the Atrium Hotel Vancouver, located at 2889 E Hastings St, Vancouver, BC V5K 2A1, Canada.
