Becoming a CUP member is simple

Membership is divided into 4 regions.

​Annual fees are based on publication size.

 

Discounted fees may be available for publications facing financial challenges.  

Membership can be purchased through Zeffy. Please fill out the form to register and pay for your membership in Canadian University Press.

CUP members enjoy a variety of benefits

Being a CUP member provides your publication with numerous benefits, including preferential rates to our annual student journalism conference, exclusive annual workshops and webinars, legal support, industry networking and more. CUP works hard to provide you with a wide variety of perks that will help strengthen your student publication  and fit your unique needs.

Conference discounts

Member publications get an exclusive discount to our annual student journalism conference, NASH. Members also receive 1 free submission per category to CUP's annual JHM Student Journalism Awards.

Annual workshops

As a member, you'll enjoy complimentary access to our annual webinars and workshops, including our highly anticipated Equity Workshop and recurring regional webinars.

Reporting grants

We proudly offer two reporting grants focused on BIPOC and LGBTQ2IA+ reporting. These annual $300 grants are open to students from CUP Member Publications.

Advocacy & outreach

CUP is committed to advocating for student journalism on a national level. We can provide letters of support, public statements, advice, consultations and more. CUP can also pursue members' best interests with government, student associations and other external bodies.

CWA MediaUnion

As a CUP member, you'll receive a free membership to the CWA MediaUnion.

Apply to journalism awards, gain funding for training opportunities and access the media union’s support.

National NewsMedia Council

CUP’s partnership with the National NewsMedia Council offers free ethical advice and conflict management services for CUP members, including responding to allegations of bias or unpublishing requests, language when covering sexual assault cases and more.

Legal support

CUP covers each member’s first hour of legal costs each year, and provides access to some of the best media lawyers in Canada.

CUP Slack

Members are invited to the CUP Slack, which offers a direct line of communication to the CUP executive team and fellow student journalists across the country.
